Al-Ghreifa… The Voice of the South in a National Dialogue on Local Governance

The Municipality of Al-Ghreifa concluded a two‑day workshop organized by the National Organization for Governance and Local Development (NOGLD) under the theme “From Reality to Aspiration: Towards Participatory and Transparent Local Governance”, as part of its national initiative to promote participatory democracy in local authority legislation. Held on 9–10 June 2026, the workshop brought together representatives of the Al-Ghreifa Municipal Council, civil society organizations, local activists, and community stakeholders. The presence of Members of Parliament Sarah Al-Suwaih and Fatima Al-Suwai’i added a legislative dimension to the discussions. Participants explored key issues including transparency, accountability, community participation, and the roots of weak trust between citizens and local institutions. Despite power outages and high temperatures, the dialogue continued — a testament to the determination of southern communities to ensure their voices shape future legislation. NOGLD emphasized that the workshop’s outcomes will contribute to ongoing national discussions on local governance laws, reaffirming that fair legislation is built through the participation of the people it serves.
