Towards More Participatory and Transparent Local Governance Legislation: Closing the Participatory Democracy Initiative

On 19 September 2026, NOGLD concluded the initiative “Enhancing Participatory Democracy in Local Governance Legislation” with a closing session attended by members of the House of Representatives’ Local Governance Committee and advocacy teams from Suluq, Gharifa, and Yefren municipalities. The session highlighted the initiative’s key findings and recommendations on transparency, accountability, and community participation. The Local Governance Committee confirmed that the initiative’s outcomes will be considered within the ongoing development of Libya’s new local governance legislation. The Final Technical Report was formally handed over to Ms. Sarah Al-Suwaih, member of the Local Governance Committee, and the Committee was honored for its continued cooperation and support throughout the initiative.
