Meeting in Shahat municipality to discuss the transfer of competences to municipalities

As part of the advocacy initiatives for the recommendations of the study "Strategic Planning for Public Policies for Service Delivery", completed within the framework of the ISAL project with the support and supervision of the German organisation DRI, the Eastern Region team held a meeting on Monday, 25 July 2022, with the acting mayor of Shahat municipality, members of the municipal council, and the head of the office. The meeting addressed the findings and recommendations of the study, especially with regard to the transfer of competencies to municipalities in accordance with the Local Government Law, and discussed the challenges that hinder the implementation of this. The meeting also discussed the previous visit of the advisor to the Minister of Local Government as part of the advocacy efforts, and reviewed its outcomes. The project is implemented within the "Connect" programme to strengthen local services and accountability, in partnership between VNG International, CILG-VNG International and DRI, with support from the European Union and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
