Initiative Introduction: Enhancing Participatory Democracy in Local Governance Legislation

On Tuesday, 16 December, the Local Governance Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives hosted an introductory working session at its headquarters for the initiative “Enhancing Participatory Democracy in Local Governance Legislation,” implemented by the National Organisation for Governance and Local Development Support (NOGLD). The session brought together Mr. Abdulwahab Zolya, Chair of the Committee, Ms. Sara Al-Suwaih, Member of the Committee, MP Salem Qanan, and representatives of NOGLD. During the meeting, NOGLD presented an overview of the initiative’s objectives, targeted municipalities, and expected outcomes, with particular emphasis on strengthening transparency, accountability, and community participation within the local governance legislative framework. The Local Governance Committee welcomed the initiative and highlighted the relevance of its outputs, noting their importance in ongoing efforts to enhance governance standards and public trust in local institutions.
